Friday fabulosity, courtesy of Elephant’s new cover star Zadie Xa, here carrying out her 2021 performance Scorpion at London’s National Gallery. Like her co-cover star Anthea Hamilton, the Korean-Canadian artist has often explored the multiplicity of selfhood within her work—in this piece, for instance, two older female performers question limits placed upon their own sexuality. But her work, she tells Hamilton in the accompanying interview, is not just about her. “I’m [more] interested in the themes of my work as an intermediate communicating vessel that I can use to have cross-cultural conversations,” she explains.
