Antony Gormley in conversation with Ann Demeester Art Basel Conversations

Antony Gormley joins historian, curator, and director of Kunsthaus Zürich, Ann Demeester, on the occasion of his sculptural installation Here and Now at Art Basel Unlimited. The discussion explores the artist’s decades-long commitment to reinstating the human body in sculpture, alongside his recently opened exhibition ‘Geestgrond’ at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp and ‘What Holds Us’ at Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, Italy. 

Antony Gormley is renowned for his sculptures, installations, and public artworks that critically investigate the relationship of the human body to space, identifying art as a site of continual becoming. Gormley lives and works in London.

Ann Demeester has been the director of the Kunsthaus Zürich, Switzerland’s largest art museum, since October 2022. She was previously the director of the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem, and the head of de Appel, Amsterdam. She has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions and biennials internationally including the Tirana Biennale (2003) and the Baltic Triennial (2009). In the Netherlands, she is a respected ambassador for the fine arts and maintains an active dialogue with politicians, the media, and the public.

Conversations take place in the Auditorium, Event Hall, Messe Basel. They are free and open to the public, booking is required.
