Jack Pierson in conversation with Klaus Biesenbach The BASS Dialogues
On the occasion of the opening of Jack Pierson: The Miami Years, the first exhibition dedicated to examining Miami’s transformative influence on Pierson’s life and work, James Voorhies, Curator-at-Large at The Bass, will introduce a conversation between Jack Pierson and Klaus Biesenbach, Director of the Neue Nationalgalerie and the soon-to-open Berlin Modern, as well as former Chief Curator-at-Large at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and Director MoMA PS1.
Pierson’s first trip from New York City to Miami Beach in the winter of 1984 sparked a relationship with the city that led to many return visits over the years, shaping his artistic practice in profound ways.
In marking Pierson’s Art Week Miami Beach debut, Voorhies will open the program with an overview of The Miami Years, a series of annual solo exhibitions he has organized to explore Miami’s impact on a single artist. The series began in 2023 with Nam June Paik, continued in 2024 with Rachel Feinstein, and this year focuses on Jack Pierson. The introduction will be followed by a conversation between Pierson and Biesenbach.
