In the studio of Irving Penn A conversation between Vasilios Zatse and Simon Baker
Saturday 11 March, 4pm
A conversation between Vasilios Zatse, Deputy Director of the Irving Penn Foundation and Simon Baker, Director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP) on the occasion of the Irving Penn exhibition at the Franciscaines, Deauville.
A guardian of the photographer's legacy, Vasilios Zatse was Irving Penn's assistant for thirteen years, the last seven as studio director. During this time he contributed to all of Penn's creative activities, including editorial assignments, advertising and project management.
This collaboration extended to photographic printing, with Zatse producing silver gelatin prints under Penn's close supervision. He also had the privilege of assisting Penn in his personal laboratory, making hand-coated prints using the 19th century platinum-palladium process.
