Erwin Wurm Al Dente – Pasta & Design
What does pasta have to do with design? Pasta is a product that only makes sense in large quantities, because no one has ever been satisfied—let alone happy—with just a single piece of pasta. Pasta is a prime example of a product of mass production. Design, as a creative activity, transforms this formless dough into an aesthetically pleasing, culinarily satisfying food that is served on plates all over the world today.
The exhibition explores the diverse creative dimensions of pasta, from Spätzle to macaroni, from orecchiette to spaghetti. The central question remains: How does pasta get its shape, and what do people do with it? Pasta and design share many points of intersection, which are explored in the exhibition: From designers in the kitchen and industry, to communication design featuring posters and packaging, to pasta created by star designers, as well as art, commerce, and kitchen gadgets.
