The Museum Ostwall’s exhibition at the Dortmunder U focuses on communication: how do we, as a society, engage in dialogue on issues where our opinions differ widely?

On Level 5 of the Dortmunder U, the Museum Ostwall is exhibiting works of art from its collection that explore interpersonal communication as a key element of our shared existence. Why is it sometimes so difficult to talk to one another? And what forms of communication can we find when language fails?

On Level 4, visitors are invited to engage with one another: artworks on various themes offer the opportunity to articulate their own perspective on a social issue, to question it in conversation with others, and to refine or rethink it.

In the exhibition’s central space, the Flux Inn, a range of activities and events encourage visitors to strike up conversations, whilst in a ‘Room of Silence’, the artworks on display create a space for tranquillity and reflection.

In this way, a discussion about art gives rise to a discussion about US – about our view of the world, art and our fellow human beings.
