Lee Kang So Frieze Seoul 2026 Highlights

1 September 2026

Highlight of this year’s fair, Lee Kang So's Serenity – 220609 (2022) embodies the expressive, gestural compositions at the heart of this practice. While his monotone works are dotted with single concentrations of black paint, here the spare, yet intentional positioning of diluted pink, orange and yellow blooms into an all-over, calligraphic field of abstraction.

After building a body of work characterised by a monochrome palette and pared-back marks, as of the late 2010s, Lee Kang So has continuously explored and experimented with colour. ‘I realized that using colors of my preference makes the works subjective,’ the artist says. To Lee Kang So, art is not an isolated declaration made by the creator, but rather a dynamic, co-created moment shaped by both the environment of its display and those who encounter the artwork.
