In Salzburg, SEAN SCULLY’s colours set the tone
Review by Gabi Czöppan
Whilst the festival immerses the city in musical sounds, Sean Scully is bringing colours to life next to the Mozarteum. Under the title ‘To Feel’, the 81-year-old Irish-American star painter is presenting new works from his ‘Wall of Light’ series – which he began in 1998 – at Ropac. Scully attended the opening, joked with Thaddaeus Ropac and patiently signed catalogues. In the oil paintings and watercolours, horizontal and vertical blocks of colour meet like bricks in a wall: dark bars, bright blue, pink, rust-red and yellow.
