VALIE EXPORT Palais Populaire Berlin

From 9th September 2020 VALIE EXPORT's Die Doppelgängerin (2010/20) will be on view in front of Berlin's Palais Populaire. Over four meters in height, the sculpture comprises two gigantic scissors, interlocked to form a figure that appears as both delicate and threatening. Evoking myriad associations, the scissors are suggestive of the traditionally female spheres of sewing and embroidery, whilst also alluding to the male fear of castration.
