Georg Baselitz: Stravinsky The artist's last sculpture on display during the Salzburg Festival 2026

17 July—30 August 2026
Großes Festspielhaus, Hofstallgasse 1, 5020 Salzburg

As part of the Salzburg Festival, Georg Baselitz’s last sculptural work, Stravinsky (2026), is on display in the foyer of the Großes Festspielhaus. A tribute to the composer Igor Stravinsky, whom Baselitz held in high esteem, the sculpture is closely linked to the critically acclaimed set design for L’Histoire du Soldat, a Salzburg Festival production staged last year at the Marionette Theatre. The bronze work, over three metres long, was cast shortly before Baselitz’s death and is the artist’s only sculpture with an entirely white patina. It occupies a unique position within his sculptural oeuvre, which began with the presentation of his first sculpture at the German Pavilion at the 1980 Venice Biennale.

The work will be on display in the foyer of the Großes Festspielhaus for the entire duration of the 2026 Salzburg Festival.
