Alvaro Barrington | Looking back from the Now Lecture at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Departing from his own work and background, artist Alvaro Barrington talks about Basquiat in a historical and contemporary light with Anders Kold, curator of the Basquiat exhibition.
The London-based artist Alvaro Barrington (born 1983) grew up in Grenada with ties to Venezuela and Haiti. At an early age he moved to New York and was influenced by hip hop and the city’s energetic street culture. As with Grenada this cultural starting point is visible in the artist’s ongoing exploration of identity.
In the Louisiana Channel film 5 Artists on Jean-Michel Basquiat Alvaro Barrington talks about his connection and fascination with Basquiat and the conversation with Anders Kold will explore this bond when the two look back at Basquiat from the now of the exhibition and through the eyes of Barrington as a contemporary artist.
On show in Louisiana’s new works exhibition, you can currently see Alvaro Barrington’s work Buk It Down (2019).
