Austrian theater, dance, and performance superstar Florentina Holzinger (40) is expanding her activities and will be represented as a visual artist by  Thaddaeus Ropac gallery. Her participation in the upcoming 61st Venice Biennale, where she will transform the Austrian Pavilion into "Seaworld Venice" starting in May, appears to be just the beginning of a broadening of her artistic scope. Her first solo gallery exhibition is planned for autumn 2027 in London or Paris.

The gallery owner believes that the planned performative installation in the Giardini Pavilion, which will be complemented by site-specific performances (“Études”) in public spaces, will already reveal the direction in which Holzinger's work is developing. “She is working very hard for Venice; it's an incredibly ambitious undertaking she's planning.” However, Ropac emphasized in an interview with the APA that the future representation of Holzinger is not about distributing works shown there through a gallery, but rather about a long-term artistic collaboration.

“It was clear to us that we couldn’t show either documentation or props from her performances. The artworks she creates will stand on their own. While they may draw inspiration from her performances, they will be entirely independent artistic creations. That’s precisely what she wants. The invitation to the Venice Biennale naturally offers the perfect opportunity,” said Ropac. “It’s exciting for us to work with an artist who is forging such a strong and compelling career within her field. Accompanying her journey into the art world is a thrilling challenge and a great honor. I’m really looking forward to it.”
