Exhibition tour by Jonathan Jones Joseph Beuys: Bathtub for a Heroine

Thursday 12 February 2026, 6pm
Ely House, London

Join us in London for a talk and tour of Joseph Beuys: Bathtub for a Heroine by The Guardian art critic and writer Jonathan Jones.

The exhibition brings to focus the decades-long evolution of Joseph Beuys’s monumental Bathtub (1961–87), illuminating the central motifs and ideas that shaped Beuys’s revolutionary concept of social sculpture. Writing about Bathtub, Jonathan has said, 'This excellent show celebrates him at his most Wagnerian: an unabashed mythmaker, reviving ancient Germanic lore.'

Jonathan Jones is a British art critic who has written for The Guardian since 1999. He was a member of the jury for the Turner Prize in 2009 and has appeared in the BBC series The Private Life of a Masterpiece.
