BASELITZ MANIFESTE Solo exhibition at the Rupertinum Salzburg
3 July—4 October 2026
Rupertinum, Salzburg, Austria
In the early 1960s, Baselitz made a conscious decision to pursue figurative art – a choice that was perceived as provocative at a time when abstract art dominated the scene. In doing so, the artist not only broke new ground in painting, but also made his mark on art history as an innovator of post-war art. The exhibition at the Rupertinum focuses on the artist's early graphic works, in which he explores German history, identity and the artist's ego. In doing so, he combines classical pictorial traditions with a powerful visual language that is often perceived as raw and disturbing. For the first time, the thematic structure is based on four manifestos written by the artist in the 1960s.
