Joan Miró Bronze Sculptures Seen Through the Openings of a Hanok
By Yeonjae Kim
Joan Miró's solo exhibition, Sculptures, layout admired by Thaddaeus Ropac deserves special attention. It is designed with inspiration from the chagyeong (borrowed scenery—a tradition Korean aesthetic) concept found in traditional hanok architecture. Chagyeong brings the surrounding landscape into the interior as a graceful extension of the space. Using hanji structures, along with multiple openings and windows, the exhibition allows the sculptures to flow naturally throughout the gallery. Visitors encounter Miró’s world as they move through a gentle, maze-like pathway.
