Heemin Chung: Garden of Turmoil Exploring the Intersection of the Virtual and the Material

24 November 2025

By Jeonghan Kim

Heemin Chung examines how we experience and perceive the world through technology, exploring the intersections of virtual and physical realities. She transforms images sourced from the internet into a tactile, hand‑crafted visual language that spans painting and sculpture, giving digital imagery a tangible, material presence.

Her work also offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the 19th-century Romantic idea of the sublime, capturing the awe and tension humans feel when confronted with overwhelming forces. By translating the encounter with infinite and uncontrollable virtual worlds into bodily sensations, Chung redefines the sublime for the digital age. The exhibition presents a vision of the contemporary world where nature and artificiality, order and chaos coexist in a delicate, dynamic balance.
