Can the opening of a gallery change Milan's art scene? Yes, if the gallery in question is Thaddaeus Ropac and the inaugural exhibition, "L'aurora viene," brings together Lucio Fontana, one of the most celebrated artists of the last century, and Georg Baselitz, a world-famous German artist destined for the history books and the flagship of the Austrian dealer's stable. The opening is scheduled for September 20th, with the exhibition running until November 21st. This is the debut of an exhibition program that is already generating excitement and anticipation, promising to bring artists never before seen in Italy while simultaneously cultivating local creativity. The project was sparked by the influence the Italian-Argentine artist had on Baselitz, who has a studio in Italy, and develops through a dialogue between their respective outputs. By the German painter, best known for his "upside-down portraits," some of his most recent paintings, created over the past ten years, are on display, along with a previously unseen monumental bronze sculpture. The suspended image of these figures suggests a sort of "exit from the depths," echoing the infinite dimension beyond the canvas, as Fontana suggested with his cuts.
