Georg Baselitz Experiment And Renewal

Museum Jorn will be presenting about 70 paintings by the German-Austrian painter and sculptor Georg Baselitz (b.1938). With particular focus on the artist’s latest painting experiments, the exhibition will feature a number of monumental pictures never before shown in public. Besides paintings from 1986 until today, a small selection of new sculptures will be on display.

Georg Baselitz is one of the most internationally renowned and influential artists. Already in the 1960s, he made an important contribution to the new understanding of painting with his provocative political pictorial themes and upside-down motifs. Through his radical-expressive style and restless questioning of aesthetic conventions, Baselitz has won accolades from numerous exhibition venues the world over, including the Documenta exhibitions in Kassel in 1972 and 1982 as well as the biennials held in São Paulo in 1975, Venice in 1980, and Beijing in 2003. The Guggenheim in New York and The Royal Academy of Arts in London have honoured Baselitz with retrospective solo exhibitions and, recently, Georg Baselitz was honoured with a special work presentation at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
