Café Bleu Now open at Thaddaeus Ropac Paris Pantin

Thaddaeus Ropac’s new Café Bleu in Pantin opened its doors on Friday 23rd of May. The newly designed Café Bleu is able to host more than 40 lunch guests and is open from 10am to 6pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays.

The contemporary café-bistrot was conceived and designed by the artistic director Pierre Pelegry, founder of Ligne Blanche Paris. Ligne Blanche brings together the worlds of contemporary art and the art of living. Thaddaeus Ropac gallery has made a selection for Café Bleu among Ligne Blanche’s porcelain and candles featuring works of some of the greatest artists of our time, from Andy Warhol to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Robert Mapplethorpe to James Rosenquist.

I wanted to create an urban space between a traditional French bistrot and a contemporary café. A healthy choice of food, on arty plates, within a unique art environment. I was happy to collaborate with architect Marine Bonnefoy to achieve a cosy and convivial setting.

Café Bleu is profoundly linked to the gallery’s artistic vision. New presentations of artworks will be unveiled every six months, with the first, inaugural installation featuring an intimate series of photographs by American artist Jack Pierson that explore the emotional undercurrents of daily Parisian life.

Café Bleu is the newest addition to the gallery’s Paris Pantin site – an extensive early 20th century ironworks factory which was redeveloped to accommodate major art exhibitions and was first opened to the public in 2012. Its location in the North East of Paris in the neighbourhood of the Philharmonie de Paris has allowed for new perspectives for the gallery, fostering interactions and collaborations with the cultural community.

On the occasion of Paris Gallery Weekend, Café Bleu will be open on Sunday 25 May from 2 to 6pm.
