In honour of the Holy Year, the Holy See Dicastery for Culture and Education has announced its contemporary art programme, including an exhibition of works by Yan Pei-Ming, to be unveiled during the Jubilee of Artists (15-18 February 2025), and on view until mid-May 2025.
Cristiana Perrella is the curator of the 2025 programme of the new exhibition space of the Dicastero, called Conciliazione 5. The space, a window open 24 hours a day on Via della Conciliazione within which the invited artists will intervene, also dialoguing with other spaces in the vicinity, will allow all pilgrims to admire the works on display.
The first artist called upon to open Conciliazione 5 is Yan Pei-Ming, renowned for his intense large-scale portraits. He has produced a body of new work on the Regina Coeli prison in Rome, made up of portraits of 27 people from the prison, including prisoners, prison guards, a doctor, a priest and volunteers, fostering visibility and understanding for this little-seen section of society. Alongside the exhibition of the portraits at the Conciliazione 5 showcase gallery , the works will also be projected onto the prison walls at night.
