Thaddaeus Ropac gallery opens a space in Milan
By Alexandre Crochet
The Thaddaeus Ropac gallery has chosen Italy to open a new space, its seventh worldwide. And it's Milan that it has set its sights on. Next autumn, the global gallery will establish itself in the Palazzo Belgioioso, a neoclassical building constructed in the 18th century for Prince Alberico Belgioioso XII d'Este.

Why Milan and Italy? 'Perhaps indeed it's not the top destination for the art market, but the way I feel it's developing can make it a success. Even if you can't compare the size of the two cities, Seoul wasn't on the radar until we moved there... You have to take risks !,’ says Thaddaeus Ropac. He continues: ‘For a venue to work, you need three conditions in situ: an active art scene, with artists producing locally; institutions; and collectors.' Which is the case in Milan.
