Anselm Kiefer and Tony Cragg demonstrate Van Gogh's influence In a group exhibition at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh this summer
The work of both Anselm Kiefer and Tony Cragg will feature this summer as part of the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles' latest exhibition, Van Gogh and the Stars.
Centred around the exceptional return of Van Gogh's famous 'cosmic poem' Starry Night over the Rhône (Arles, Sept. 1888) to the banks of the river that inspired it for the very first time since its creation, the exhibition provides an opportunity to shed new light on both the sources the artist drew on to create it and the considerable influence of this nocturnal scene. Its unshakeable strength and legacy will be highlighted in the work of past and present artists, through a variety of scientific, historical, and poetic approaches.
A fascination with the night has persisted in contemporary art, where it has taken different forms, as shown in the work of subsequent artists such as Tony Cragg, Anselm Kiefer, Edvard Munch, Kasimir Malevitch, Georgia O'Keeffe, Helen Frankenthaler and other major figures who are featured in the exhibition. Jean de Loisy and Bice Curiger's curation will also focus on the erudite work and research carried out by Vincent van Gogh throughout his life, driven by his inner vision, his torments, his acute sense of observation, but also by his environment.
