Cory Arcangel: Water, Wind and Fire Commission for ART on the MART
Across the summer at ART on the MART will run a new projection by the esteemed post-conceptual artist Cory Arcangel, whose work considers the potential and failures of modern and historic digital technologies. In a sly homage to the Chicago-based band Earth, Wind & Fire, Cory Arcangel's installation draws on footage of water, wind, and fire shot in Chicago, Illinois and Stavanger, Norway.
Using Cookery, a custom-built software Arcangel developed in collaboration with designer Henry Van Dusen, Arcangel manipulates his collected video footage, resulting in an animated, digitally-abstracted landscape painting. Paired with a soundscape developed in collaboration with experimental musician Hampus Lindwall, Arcangel architects a multimedia experience that is at once gleefully puzzling and oddly familiar.
