WITH Gilbert & George Special film screening at the ICA

A special screening of WITH Gilbert & George, by Julian Cole will take place at the The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) at 6.30pm on Saturday 13 July.

Followed by an in-person conversation with Gilbert & George and filmmaker Julian Cole.

Filmmaker, Julian Cole first met Gilbert & George when he modelled for them in 1986. His intimate and moving portrait filmed over 18 years, reveals for the first time the individuals behind the living sculptures. The film traces their lives from humble beginnings to the world’s artistic stage where they have performed their enigmatic and controversial double act for four decades. Having mounted more exhibitions around the world than any other living artist, G&G’s motto ‘Art for All’ is assessed through their ground-breaking shows in Russia, China and beyond revealing how their art can transcend cultural barriers. 

WITH Gilbert & George transports us out of the limelight and into the 18th Century home and studio they created together in 1969 in Spitalfields, East London. We see how their work not only documents their own remarkable and enduring artistic collaboration but also the transformation of their visually rich but financially poor and historic neighbourhood.
