Richard Deacon solo show at the Peter Marino Art Foundation
The Peter Marino Art Foundation is delighted to exhibit the largest show of Richard Deacon's wood sculptures. Material specificity lies at the heart of the artist's practice. In his own words, 'I've always thought that it was the materiality of things which allows you to build meaning.' Deacon finds great freedom in the unpredictability of the wood's surface. He explores the generative tension between the ambiguity of its pattern and the intentionality of the shapes that he creates. His wood-bending technique compellingly blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. As Peter Marino has stated, his wooden works 'look movemented and elegant and almost elegiac'.
