Sean Scully Sean Scully solo exhibition for Normandie Impressionniste 2024 at Saint-Nicolas church in Caen, France
For the 2024 edition of Normandie Impressionniste, Sean Scully will exhibit his works at Saint-Nicolas church in Caen, France.
In a career spanning 50 years, Sean Scully has created a body of work that has been extremely influential in the development of a new contemporary abstraction. A fusion of the traditions of European painting (notably Impressionism) and the specificities of American abstraction, his work combines a certain form of pictorial drama with immense visual pleasure. The intimate and the monumental will form the axis of Sean Scully's exceptional project for Normandie Impressionniste.
The Church of Saint-Nicolas in Caen, with its breathtakingly pure Romanesque beauty, will be the perfect setting for a spectacular intervention comprising large-scale paintings and monumental sculptures. The tour will also include the dormant cemetery adjoining the church.
This project, open to all (free admission), will celebrate the deep love of one of America's greatest artists for the founding lands of modern painting.
