The great mage Irving Penn 'The Bath' is shaped by the spirit of Cézanne and his robust 'Women Bathing'

En 1967, Irving Penn sillonne la Californie baba et fait défiler dans son studio Hells Angels, hippies et figures de la scène artistique, comme le Dancer's workshop of San Fransisco (...) Devant l'objectif du photographe, aucun désir d'effaroucher ou d'enjoliver: la réalité, toujours sublimée, fait oeuvre d'étérnité. Irving Penn a l'art du cliché vérité et du détail revélateur, comme les maîtres anciens. Ce n'est donc pas un hasard si cette série, intitulée The Bath, se place sous le signe de Cézanne et de ses robustes Baigneuses. Oubliées une vingtaine d'années, ces images ont reparu grâce à Anna Halprin à la fin des années 80. (...) Bonne nouvelle: les photographies de ce sculpteur de corps sont exposées à Paris jusqu'à fin novembre.

Under the photographer's lens, there is no desire to frighten or embellish: reality, always sublimated, is the embodiment of eternity. Irving Penn mastered the art of the truthful shot and of the revealing detail, just like the old masters. It is therefore no coincidence that this series, entitled The Bath, is shaped by the spirit of Cézanne and his robust Women Bathing. Forgotten for about two decades, these images reappeared thanks to Anna Halprin in the late 1980s. (...) The good news is that the photographs of this body sculptor are on show in Paris until the end of November.
