The House of St. Barnabas presents Alvaro Barrington's new installation To celebrate the Charity's 10th birthday
Private View: Tuesday, 3 Oct 2023 | 18:30 - 22:00 BST
To celebrate the Charity's 10th birthday, The House of St Barnabas presents: Sea to C, Starry Nights, St Barnabas, 2023, a new site-specific installation, which draws on Alvaro Barrington's works shown at Glastonbury Festival and Notting Hill Carnival earlier this Summer. Primarily a painter, Barrington uses a wide range of materials in his practice and paints on various surfaces and objects, further exploring the medium of painting. Here the installation is composed of steelpans, an instrument very present at the Carnival and in Caribbean music in general, and works on burlap in frames made of reclaimed wood and corrugated metal. The paintings are a continuation of the artist’s series Sea to C, inspired by the pop colours of the Caribbean and the Carnival and XIXth century landscape paintings.
