Lisa Brice's work will be included in Tate Modern's group show Capturing The Moment

14 June 2023—28 January 2024
Tate Modern

Bringing together significant works from the Tate collection and Yageo Foundation Collection this exhibition invites visitors to discover the dynamic relationship between the brush and the lens – contemporary painting and photography.

The show’s journey spans the last 100 years through the work of 39 artists, beginning with post-war expressive painters such as Francis BaconLucian Freud and Alice Neel, whose art grappled with photography in many different ways.

Next, visitors will discover striking painterly photographs created by the likes of Hiroshi SugimotoJeff WallLouise Lawler and Candida Höfer.

The work of artists – from Andy WarholGerhard Richter and Pauline Boty – who practiced new approaches to contemporary painting under the influence of twentieth-century photography, can also be seen. This is alongside fellow contemporary painters such as Christina Quarles and Rachel Owens, who merged painting with new forms of digital media.

This is a unique chance to explore how some of the greatest modern painters and photographers of our time worked alongside each other using two distinct mediums.
