Overview
For its second exhibition, Thaddaeus Ropac Milan presents the first pairing of VALIE EXPORT (Austrian, b. 1940) and Ketty La Rocca (Italian, 1938–1976), two of the most visionary figures of conceptual and feminist art to emerge in 1960s Europe. Though the two artists never met, they each pioneered new body-oriented approaches to art, revealing patriarchal power structures embedded in systems of language and representation.
Co-curated by Andrea Maurer and Alberto Salvadori, and in collaboration with Studio VALIE EXPORT and the Ketty La Rocca Estate, the exhibition will explore the dialogue between the two artists' interdisciplinary practices, spanning photography, performance, film, installation and text.
