Yan Pei-Ming After Photography
Musée Nicéphore Niépce
28, Quai Des Messageries
71100 Chalon-sur-Saône
Through his famous monumental portraits brushed in two-colors, Yan Pei-Ming tries to reach a kind of universality. A compulsive and persevering artist, he makes portraits in series, painting from memory or after photography.
This aspect particularly resonates in the Nicéphore Niépce museum's exhibition: several photographs of women and couples serve as a fertile source of inspiration for Yan Pei-Ming's creativity. Through a mix of charcoal and gouache the artist succeeds in rendering the brutality of real life and in intruding into the intimacy of these "ladies".
