Georg Baselitz Admission to the Académie des Beaux-Arts

On 27 October 2021, Georg Baselitz was officially admitted to the Académie des Beaux-Arts as a foreign associate member in a ceremony that took place under the dome of the Institut de France. He took his seat alongside ten other foreign members elected for their contribution to promoting artistic expression throughout the world. During the ceremony, Académie member Jean-Marc Bustamante gave a speech celebrating Baselitz, who in turn, as is customary at the Académie, honoured his predecessor, the late Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda. Baselitz received his ceremonial sword from Académie française member Pierre Rosenberg.
