Raqib Shaw Reinventing The Old Masters

Raqib Shaw, ‘Reinventing the Old Masters’ at the National Galleries Scotland opens tonight from 6-8pm. The private view follows a conversation taking place between 4 and 5pm between Patrick Elliott, Chief Curator at the Gallery of Modern Art, Raqib Shaw and Sir Norman Rosenthal, former Exhibitions Secretary at the Royal Academy, London.

Eight works by Raqib Shaw will be on view, alongside two Old Master paintings which have long obsessed him: Joseph Noel Paton’s The Quarrel of Oberon and Titania, 1849 and Lucas Cranach’s An Allegory of Melancholy, 1528. The works include 'Kashmir Danae (After Gossaert)', 2017 on loan from Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac and pictured here.

This is the first-time Shaw’s work has been exhibited in Scotland. The exhibition runs from 19 May - 28 October 2018.
