The Fondation Carmignac presents Vertigo, a group show curated by Matthieu Poirier, at the Villa Carmignac on the island of Porquerolles.

Echoing the dizzying experience of the Mediterranean sun, mistral wind, waves and sea spray, but also the immensity of the sky and the depths of the sea on the island of Porquerolles, Vertigo sheds a new light on the links between the perception of natural phenomena and abstraction since the 1950s.

Vertigo, from the Latin vertere - to turn or transform - here refers to the blurred perception of a visual field in motion, whether that be nature or a painting.

The exhibition takes a look at the sensations induced by the exhilarating experience of nature, between disorientation, floating and dazzlement. It is divided into five sections, each representing a different visual register associated with the landscape: aquatic, cosmogonic, aerial, infinite and terrestrial.
