Rachel Jones acquired by the Tate
Congratulations to Rachel Jones on the recent acquisition by the Tate of lick your teeth, they so clutch (2021) for their permanent collection.
In Rachel Jones' paintings, she grapples with the challenges of finding visual means to convey abstract, existential concepts. In depicting the psychological truths of being and the emotions these engender, she uses abstraction as a way of expressing the intangible. Jones repeats motifs and symbols across her series to create associative, even familial, relationships between them, underscoring their kinship as part of her ongoing investigation of identity.
The painting is currently included in London Hayward Gallery's exhibition, Mixing It Up: Painting Today.
