La Couleur crue Raw Colour

2021年6月12日—8月29日
Musée des Beaux-arts de Rennes

From 12 June to 29 August, on the occasion of the summer art event "Exporama" and echoing the exhibition at the Couvent des Jacobins "Au-delà de la Couleur. Black and White in the Pinault Collection", the Musée des beaux-arts de Rennes presents "La Couleur crue" (Raw Colour).

The term "raw" is applied here to the plastic arts and means "in its raw state, which has not undergone any preparation or transformation".
Under the title "Raw Colour", 40 works by 30 international artists, women and men, are grouped together. They are interested in colour, its relationship to matter and light, as well as in the physical and sensory perception that everyone can experience when faced with colour. Behind this close link, the questions of the existence of colour in its natural state, of the materials and know-how used, and of the dematerialisation of colour in its relationship to light, appear.

Visitors will discover a variety of media such as painting, sculpture, objects, text, sound, installation and video, in material and embodied works, immaterial or conceptual, immersive or frontal.

The curators are Jean-Roch Bouiller, director of the Musée des beaux-arts, Sophie Kaplan, director of La Criée - Centre d'art contemporain and Anne Langlois, artistic director and curator of exhibitions at 40mcube. Together, these three Rennes-based structures have built "La Couleur Crue" "through a sensitive approach to the material of the works and the experience of visitors in front of them".

Until 29 August, in order to extend the visit of the exhibition "La Couleur crue" and to echo its painting collection, the museum is taking 16 works out of its reserves and presenting them in the permanent collection on the first floor.
