漫游在乌托邦与反乌托邦之间，吉尔·德·贝兰库尔（Jules de Balincourt） 的画作探索了内与外的世界，建构出千变万化的实体与想像景观。他的作品色彩多样、极具风格，钩沉文化与历史、同时不失对绘画的关注。他将波普艺术（pop art）、民间艺术（folk art）、具象（figuration）和抽象（abstraction）共冶一炉，用不同形式的特质揉合出一个如梦的空间。
在贝兰库尔的首批成名画作中，他质疑权力结构、科技和大众媒体，以及对流行文化的刻板印象，如寂寞牛仔的形象等。他的画作常在貌似乏味的场景中，透过描绘细节、复杂化或简化叙述，隐藏复杂的社会纪实。在他其后以地图为基础的作品中，他摆脱使用陆地、国家和边界等准确代表世界的标准，反而透过着重描绘富想像力的时间及空间，提示我们存在内在的内心世界。这些影像接近抽象，象征意义往往大于图像本身。事物的分离和聚合，启发他创作一系列以大胆色彩描绘爆炸和辐射的作品，能量跃然纸上。
