매우 작은 크기부터 기념비적인 스케일까지, 론 뮤엑의 세심하고 정교하게 묘사된 인물들은 인간의 사적인 감정의 내면세계를 반영한다. 놀라울 만큼 사실주의적인 그의 작품들은 인류가 공유하고 있는 도전과 위험에 대한 공감적인 경험을 바탕으로 한다. 출생과 죽음, 취약함, 두려움, 연민 같은 보편적인 경험과 감동에 대해 내밀하고 절제된 명상을 담아내는데, 이는 작품을 마주한 관람객으로 하여금 스스로 자신과 타인의 감정에 대해 성찰하도록 독려한다. 작가는 자세, 몸짓, 표정, 크기, 사실주의 등 매체가 지닌 모든 전통적인 요소를 활용함으로 인간으로서 처한 상황에 대한 강력한 심리적 초상화를 제작한다.
영화와 TV 산업 분야에서 커리어를 시작한 뮤엑이 본격적으로 순수 미술에 발을 들이게 된 시점은 1996년 헤이워드 갤러리 (Hayward Gallery)에서 협업한 파울라 레구(Paula Rego)와의 만남으로 거슬러 올라간다. 이듬해, 런던 왕립 아카데미(Royal Academy of Arts)에서 한 시대를 정의하였다고 평가받는 ⟪센세이션(Sensation)⟫ 전시에 참가한 뮤엑은 돌아가신 자신의 아버지를 1 미터 남짓한 형상으로 선보이며 동시대 가장 유명한 작가 중 한 명으로 발돋움하게 되었다. 이후, 2000년 영국 런던 내셔널 갤러리(National Gallery, London)의 입주 작가로 2년을 보내며 갤러리의 영구 컬렉션에 소장될 조각들을 제작하였으며, 2003년 해당 갤러리에서 개최된 개인전을 통해 일련의 작품들을 선보였다.
1958년 호주 멜버른에서 독일인 부모 밑에서 태어난 론 뮤엑은 현재 영국에서 거주하며 활동 중이다. 작가는 포트워스 근대미술관(Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, 2018); 휴스턴 미술관(Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 2017); 사라 힐덴 미술관(Sara Hildén Art Museum, Tampere, Finland, 2016); 빈 미술사 박물관(Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, 2016); 리우 데 자네이루 모던 아트 뮤지엄(Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, 2014); 빅토리아 국립 미술관(National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 2010) 등의 유수한 기관에서 개인전을 개최하였다. 2017년 뮤엑은 빅토리아 국립 미술관의 제 1회 NGV 트리엔날레(NGV Triennial)에 참여하여 신작 의뢰를 받았는데, 금박으로 표구된 18세기 회화 작품들이 즐비한 미술관 컬렉션 사이에 100개의 해골을 높게 쌓아 만든 <Mass>를 선보였고, 이는 작가의 작업 전반 가운데 가장 기념비적인 작품이라는 평가를 받았다.
