About the editor

Andy St. Louis is a Seoul-based writer, editor, curator and consultant with more than a decade of experience in the field of contemporary Korean art. In 2018, he founded Seoul Art Friend (an online platform dedicated to promoting Korean art and documenting Seoul’s art scene) and has since positioned himself among the country’s top contemporary art influencers. Through his critical writing practice, he has distinguished himself as an insightful and informed critical voice whose perspectives on contemporary Korean art are increasingly sought-after by media outlets worldwide. He is currently the Seoul desk editor for ArtAsiaPacific and has contributed to international publications including Artforum, Artnet News, The Art Newspaper, ArtReview and frieze. He previously served as resident art critic at SONGEUN Artist Studio (2021) and culture critic at KBS World Radio (2020-2022).

Today, global attention is turning toward a younger generation of Korean artists whose time in the spotlight is only just beginning – Millennials. These artists collectively represent both the present and future of contemporary Korean art, having already earned broad-based acclaim as leading figures in the domestic art scene while demonstrating the potential to make significant inroads into the contemporary art mainstream in the years to come. Their promise is not only premised upon the raw talent they possess, but also the rigorous methodological and conceptual frameworks in which their practices are based. Moreover, the themes that they confront in their works resonate strongly with universal issues of their time – rather than engaging in the sociopolitical posturing and postmodern dialectics favored by previous generations of Korean artists – as they seamlessly synthesize local concerns and global attitudes, encapsulating the complexities of the contemporary condition.
