In this work, a monumental chair is depicted in deep hues of red against a green, earthy background. The title hints at the Greek goddess Circe, who has often been depicted on her throne in works throughout art history, including the famous painting by John William Waterhouse. While the sorceress is absent in Jungwirth’s work, green hues hint at Aeaea, the island of her banishment, described by Classical writers as wild with heavy woods and guarded by men she had turned into wolves and lions.
