German National Prize awarded to Anselm Kiefer

This year's German National Prize will be awarded to Anselm Kiefer by the Deutsche Nationalstiftung. The prize is intended to honor persons or institutions that have rendered great service in the areas of the reunification of Germany, the promotion of greater solidarity between Germany and Europe, and the cause of Europe in general. 

Kiefer is part of the first generation of German artists who directly addressed the question of identity and nation after the war and the Holocaust, stated the foundation. He will receive the award on 6 July at the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche in Berlin.
