Joseph Beuys

  • Greetings from Eurasien
    October 13, 2017 - January 21, 2018
    M HKA
    Leuvenstraat 32
    Antwerp, Belgium

Presenting over 150 works, the exhibition Joseph Beuys: Greetings from the Eurasian seeks simultaneously to consider Joseph Beuys’ activities in Antwerp during the 1960s and 1970s, alongside his relevance to a new generation.

Beuys was active in Antwerp during the 1960s and 1970s through his relationship with the seminal gallery Wide White Space. Amongst his numerous exhibitions, it is here that he also made his performance Eurasienstab (Eurasian Staff) in collaboration with Henning Christiansen on February 9, 1968. Joseph Beuys: Greetings from the Eurasian will in the first instance look at Beuys as an artist that was not only active in Antwerp (where he met other figures of the Post-War avant-garde such as Marcel Broodthaers and Panamarenko) but was also deeply influential in Belgium more broadly, in a way that has been largely forgotten.

  • The End of the 20th Century. The Best Is Yet to Come. A Dialogue with the Marx Collection
    September 14, 2013 - March 30, 2014
    Hamburger Bahnhof
    Berlin, Germany

The 20th century, in whose shadow we still live today, is widely considered the first to be more about the future than the past. For while both scientific forecasting and the notion of progress originated back in the European Enlightenment, it was the prodigious breakthroughs and milestones of the 20th century, the global cataclysms and vicissitudes from the First World War onwards that brought the future to the forefront of politics, science, the arts and everyday life.

  • Drawings – Gouaches – Book
    June 29, 2012 - September 30, 2012
KÜPPERSMÜHLE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, DUISBURG (D)

This exhibition presented by the Küppersmühle Museum in Duisburg stages an encounter between two icons of German art, Joseph Beuys (*1921-86) and Anselm Kiefer (*1945), who for the first time are presented in striking juxtaposition.

Both created outstanding and expressive works on paper, which came to assume an important role within their total oeuvre. Underlying many of the works is the question of human destiny, its history and future, as seen from the perspective of the two artists.
