Wolfgang Laib
Wolfgang Laib was born in 1950 in Metzingen, Germany. He lives and works in Germany.
Laib is less concerned with innovation or formal development than with continuity. His aesthetics is close to that of Land Art and Minimal Art. Materials central to Laib's work are milk, pollen, rice, wax and marble, which he uses in his formal installations. His practice is informed by Oriental philosophy, in which he repeatedly uses the cone form and rectangle, as well as stylised motifs of houses. In his work, the limited number of elements and the rigor of his installations lead the spectator to contemplate and concentrate on what he is seeing.
